Review: Highland Chieftain

Highland Chieftain Highland Chieftain by Hannah Howell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

'Highland Chieftain' by Hannah Howell is book twenty-0ne in the "Murray Family" series. This is the story of Bethoc Matheson and Sir Callum MacMillan. I have been jumping in and out of the series so for me this is a standalone series I thought. Callum is one of the children in the previous book 'Highland Angel' by Hannah Howell..I just wanted to add that in case you have been keeping up with the series. I did loved this book and all of Ms. Howell I have read so far but this one is a little slow with Callum coming around to knowing if he loved Bethoc. Which I know is related to his childhood but I just so love when the hero knows what he wants and does not let go.
Bethoc mother died a about two years ago leaving her with a man she thought was her father but he is very abusive to her and her 'brothers'. Bethoc is staying to protect the young children from the evil father. While trying to get a breather from the house she and her little sister run into Callum who has been beat up and thrown into the lake. She saves him and they form a friendship while she keeps him hiding and he heals. But the people looking for him are still out there and when her father is killed Bethoc is brought in for the murder. I couldn't put this one down and read it until the end!
I received an eARC, from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.
