Review: The Chief's Maiden

The Chief's Maiden The Chief's Maiden by Cecelia Mecca
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

'The Chief's Maiden' by Cecelia Mecca is Book Three in The "Border" Series. This is the story of Toren Kerr and Lady Juliette Hallington. I have read the other books in this series (and loved them!) but feel this can easily be a standalone book.
Juliette is the daughter of Stewart Hallington a English Warden. Juliette father has plans for her to marry a man that Juliette doesn't not want to marry. So when it time to go to the Games between the English and the Scots, Juliette plans to find a husband there. But her father doesn't go as plan but he does allow her to go with Lady Christina and husband.
James Douglas Warden of the Marches tells Toren that there is a Royal Decree From King that he is to kill Stewart Hallington. They think he is cheating and allowing cheating to go on at the games that has caused the death of some of their people. Toren tries to argue that he can't do it but James talks to him further about a past incident that confirms that he will have to do this assassination.
Juliette and Toren accidentally meet and sparks fly. But they don't learn who the other truly is until after they start to have feelings for each other.
I have truly enjoyed the "Border" series and Ms. Mecca writing! Each book once you start reading makes it very hard to put it down until the end.
Can't wait for more books by this author!
