Hostage by Skye Warren and Annika Martin is book Two in the "Criminals & Captives" series. This is the story of Brooke and Stone.
I have not yet read the previous book 'Prisoner', so for me this was a standalone book.
Broke is having her Sweet 16 Birthday party when this books starts. Broke's parents are almost at a financial ruin but having to keep up appearance they are throwing her this birthday party. Broke is upset at this party because she has to pretend that everything is fine and tries to do her parents proud by socializing. But when she slips out to take a breath and get control of herself she happens upon Stone beating someone to death. Stone takes Broke with him and lets her know that she has signed her death notice. But the more time he spends with her he finds that he can't harm her. Stone makes her aware that he is letting her go but she has to stick to a story that keeps him out of the cops eye. But Stone just can't seem to walk away from Broke and keeps coming back. Broke at first is worried that he is back to hurt her but she too is starting to having feeling for him.
This is a Dark Romance but I didn't think it was very Dark. Stone and his friend/brothers have reason for the way they are and how they were treated as kids.
Their story sucks you in and is won't let you go until the end! Loved it!!!
