'Blackburn Castle' by R.C. Matthews is book Two in the "Tortured Souls" series. This is the story of Victor and Mercy. I have read the previous book but feel this can be a standalone book.
Victor was just 10 years old when he was forced to Kill Mercy's mother. Just a small child that had be torched and threaten with his own death if he did not. Mercy's mother had already witnessed the awful man called 'Butcher' who was her brother in-law kill her husband. Butcher had promised not to kill her, her daughter Mercy or Victor if she would tell him where Mercy was. Once she told him he said he wouldn't kill her but he forced Victor to kill or be killed. Mercy mother told Victor to sacrifice herself to save him.
This is how the books starts...so it has grabbed you right away with this opener. It goes from there where the story moves forward to deal with Victor and Mercy now grown up. Mercy has been in hiding and wants to stay that way so that the curse that is on Victor will take his life with he turns 27. Victors life has been a harsh one and now if like all the other males in his family when he turns 27 he fated to die.
But will Mercy help him? Can they move forward with so much cursed upon them?
