Review: If I Were a Duke

If I Were a Duke If I Were a Duke by Eva Devon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

If I Were a Duke by Eva Devon is book Nine in the "Dukes' Club" series. This is the story of Lady Eleanor Paisley and Anthony 'Tony' Burke.
Eleanor it seems has known nothing put pain as an orphan shuttled from house to house treated as a servant. Then Andrew Winthrop, Duke of Ayr treated her to governess and a better life only to ask her to help with the house or parties. Eleanor had thought she had fallen in love with Captain James Farrel who saw past her plan clothes and looks. But she was still young and he in service could not marry right away. But he had promised to do so and wrote always to her but then when he didn't return, she received a letter that he had died. This was the nail that settled her that she would no longer love another...it hurt to much when they left. So she became proper and reserved to others.
Tony who is the bastard son of Duke of Aston has known a harsh childhood but with the hope of his mother has always looked for the good. Tony doesn't really meet his father until he is in his teens but they do grow to have a close relationship. This leads him to meet noble people and work toward a much better life. Tony also meets the and assist the King... in turn the King has given him the title of Duke of Ayr since the last Duke has recently died. Along with that title he is requested to marry Eleanor Paisley the ward of that title. Tony has met Eleanor once and found her very stiff and proper so at first he is turned off such an ideal, but with his desire to help other...the new Title would help with that goal. But Eleanor's stiff and reserve attitude toward him isn't due to his birth but it seems that her heart has been damaged...which he wants to heal.
Really loved their story!!!
