'Waking the Bear' by Kerry Adrienne is book one in the "Shifter Wars" series.
This is the story of Amy Francis and Griff Martin.
Amy has come to Deep Creek for a vacation. Amy is trying to clear her head after loosing her job and breaking up with a abusive type boyfriend. So she picked a secluded cabin in Deep Creek that is being rented out by Griff. Amy thinks only to clear her mind and paint...not find someone whom she is attracted too.
Griff knows right off when he meets Amy that she is his mate. But Griff is having to deal with Cougars who are attacking and one old enemy who blames him for his parents death. So Griff thinks he won't be able to claim or move forward with any relationship until he deals with the current issues. But Griff 'bear' is finding it hard not to claim her. Griff knows too that he had to try to explain what and who he is to Amy. But can he put things on hold with Amy?
